Annual Tareq Rajab Lecture: Threads of Beauty

We invite you to attend our Annual Tareq Rajab lecture entitled “Threads of Beauty: How Textiles and Motifs Connect Civilisations”, presented by Dr. Ziad Rajab, which marks our Cultural Season 31st opening.

The lecture examines textiles as powerful vehicles of cultural exchange across Asia, the Islamic world, and Europe. Fabrics such as Chinese silks, Persian velvets, Ottoman embroideries, Indian cottons, and European luxury textiles carried motifs and ideas through trade, diplomacy, and migration.
These patterns ranging from arabesques and geometric forms to mythical and floral designs were adapted across regions and extended into ceramics, metalwork, manuscripts, and architecture. Drawing on objects from the Tareq Rajab Museum and global collections, the lecture highlights a shared artistic vocabulary spanning centuries of intercultural connection and creativity.

Dr. Ziad is the director of the New English School and a Tareq Rajab Museum board member. In addition to being a human resource specialist, he is involved in the arts, and has non-professional certificates in bookbinding, illumination, portraiture, oil painting and pottery. He is also an accomplished flautist.
