Melodies from Greece - نغم من اليونان

On the third night of NCAAL’s International Music Festival, we journey to the heart of Greek civilization and the Anatolian plateau in Asia Minor. On Wednesday evening, 20 November, the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ali Concert Hall will host “Melodies from Greece,” a concert featuring the renowned Greek clarinetist Vassilis Saleas alongside traditional kemenche player Cafer Nazlıbaş. Together, they will bring to life some of Greece’s most beautiful melodies.

Vassilis Saleas, one of Greece’s most celebrated musicians, began his career in the 1990s and has collaborated with prominent artists and composers, including the late singer Dionysis Savvopoulos and the renowned composer Vangelis, famed for his Oscar-winning score for “Chariots of Fire” and “1492: Conquest of Paradise”. Cafer Nazlıbaş, a modern master of the kemenche (also known as the lyre), plays this traditional string instrument with roots in Syria and Iraq that later spread to the Anatolian plateau and Greece.

تحملنا ثالث ليالي مهرجان الموسيقى الدولي، الذي يقيمه المجلس الوطني للثقافة والفنون والآداب، إلى بلاد الحضارة الإغريقية وهضبة الأناضول في آسيا الصغرى، حيث تستضيف قاعة الشيخ جابر العلي الموسيقية، في مساء الأربعاء 20 نوفمبر، حفل «نغم من اليونان»، الذي يحييه عازف الكلارينت اليوناني المعروف فاسيليس سالياس بمصاحبة عازف آلة الجوزة التقليدية جعفر نازليباش حيث يقدمان أجمل الألحان من الموسيقى اليونانية.

يعتبر فاسيليس سالياس من أشهر الموسيقيين اليونانيين بمسيرة فنية بدأت منذ تسعينيات القرن الماضي، عمل خلالها إلى جوار أهم الفنانين والمؤلفين الموسيقيين مثل المغني الراحل ديونيسيس سافوبولوس، والموسيقار العالمي فانغيليس صاحب الموسيقى التصويرية لأفلام «غزو الفردوس:1492»، كما قام بتأليف الموسيقى التصويرية الحائزة على جائزة الأوسكار لفيلم «عربات النار»، وكذلك لأفلام «بليد رانر»، «المفقود»، وغيرها. أما جعفر نازليباش، أفضل عازف جوزة بالعصر الحديث، وهي آلة وترية تعرف بالكمنجة أيضًا وتعود أصولها إلى سوريا والعراق انتقلت منها إلى هضبة الأناضول واليونان.
