“Yojimbo” (1961) is a samurai film directed by the legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, who also co-wrote the screenplay and served as one of the producers. The film follows a nameless ronin, or masterless samurai, who arrives in a small village in feudal Japan, where two rival businessmen are battling for control of the local gambling trade. Each boss attempts to hire the ronin as a bodyguard, setting the stage for a complex power struggle.

Yojimbo received widespread critical acclaim and, over time, has come to be regarded as one of Kurosawa’s finest works and one of the greatest films ever made. The film was also the inspiration for Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti Western “A Fistful of Dollars” (1964).

من أهم وأشهر أفلام المخرج الياباني العظيم أكيرا كوروساوا، الذي شارك أيضًا في كتابة السيناريو والإنتاج. تحكي الأحداث عن محارب ساموراي بلا أستاذ أو سيد، يصل إلى قرية يابانية صغيرة فيجد اثنين من رجال الأعمال يتنافسان للسيطرة على التجارة في البلدة. ويحاول كل منهما توظيف الساموراي الغريب كحارس شخصي مما يتسبب في صراع أكبر على السلطة.

حقق الفيلم نجاحًا كبيرًا بين النقاد وفي شباك التذاكر، وبمرور الوقت صار يُنظر إليه بوصفه أحد أفضل أعمال كوروساوا، وواحدًا من أعظم الأفلام في تاريخ السينما العالمية. كما استلهم قصته المخرج الإيطالي سيرجيو ليوني ليقدمها في هوليوود بعنوان «من أجل حفنة دولارات» في العام 1964 بطولة كلينت إيستوود.
